"BIG RIG"
The RGA8 amps up the contemporary design cues to the maximum. While the RGA8 features a figured top, it’s the finish that takes center stage here. The Arctic Oil Spill Burst finish offers a subtle transparency, allowing just a hint of the Flamed Maple to show through. The idea was to mimic what the top might look like if it was frozen beneath a sheet of ice, creating a very dramatic effect. The guitar is also accented by Abalone/Pearloid Block inlays running the length of the Rosewood fretboard and reinforcing the themes of ice and winter with their shimmering, crystalline appearance. A faux binding effect is achieved by leaving the natural Flamed Maple exposed around the sides of the instrument, while true Flamed Maple binding runs the perimeter of the fingerboard. Both elements allow a bit of the natural figuring of the Maple to shine through the muting effect of the finish. Seeing as the guitar is the bigger sibling to an RGA7 in this collection featuring the same finish; sticking with the oil theme, the nickname “Big Rig” was selected as an ode to the size and imposing character of this impressive custom design.
