Inspired by Joe Satriani’s album of the same name, Crystal Planet is as an odyssey through time and space that merges the best elements of science fiction with the inherent creativity and imagination, brought about by music. In addition to its roots in Joe’s music, the idea for turning crystal planet into a comic book series came from a collaboration with Ned Evett. Ned created a short animated video for Joe’s song, “Lies and Truths,” and with this short work, the catalyst for Crystal planet was ignited.
This concept eventually led to Joe and Ned’s partnership with Heavy Metal Publishing in order to bring Crystal Planet to life. Joe offered the following thoughts on his and Ned’s collaboration with Heavy Metal, “Both Ned and I love working with Llexi and the Incendium creative team, they bring so much artistry and expertise to our time-traveling adventure. I am thrilled to finally offer our fans the first full issue of what will ultimately be a three novel trilogy.”
The first issue of Crystal Planet is out now and available to purchase, and the second issue is on set for release very soon. For more details on the story and creative process surrounding Crystal Planet, check out the videos below to get the lowdown from Joe Satriani himself.

During our long partnership with Joe Satriani, Ibanez has released countless JS signature models. One of the most sought after has been the elusive Chrome-finished JS guitars, the Chrome Boy.
