Ibanez: Who or what originally inspired you to pick up the bass guitar? Chris: Well all my friends were playing guitar, and I thought I would be different. When I started to play bass, my main influences were Flea and Mark Hoppus. Then, it was just general ways of playing bass. I never bothered with lessons, though maybe I should?? Haha!
Ibanez: When did you and the guys in Ignominious Incarceration meet and form the band, and how did that all come about? Chris: It was just before the summer of 2006, I believe. Some guy I knew wanted to start a band and asked me, Andy and Sam to join. So we did it, and it was some shit style of music. Then, the guy who formed it couldn't be bothered with it anymore. So we carried it on, got new members and started Ignominious Incarceration.
Ibanez: Have there been any major challenges that you guys have had to overcome as a band to get where you are now? Chris: We always used to have a problem with guitarists, and the fact that we're all poor doesn¡Çt help with getting equipment! I guess real major ones were trying to get Steve to come back, as his old job took up all his time!
Ibanez: What has the recording process been like with Scott Atkins for the debut album on Earache Records? Chris: Amazing! He taught all of us so much more! It took quite a while for the bass parts to get done, but it was awesome. We're all really happy with how the album sounds!
Ibanez: The two tracks up on your MySpace page from "Of Winter Born" are pretty epic and go through a lot of stages. What is the writing process like within the band and how do you guys figure out how to structure a song when you're writing it? Chris: Well, Steve and I will have ideas and bounce them off each other. We'll find a good main riff then work on that. We'll play riffs to Sam and see what ideas he has for the drums to be like. Then, he'll improve on the ideas.
Ibanez: Were there any particular features that made you want to start playing SR basses? Chris: The small body and slim neck. Also, the fact that they're light helps me, because I like to swing my guitar around a fair bit.
Ibanez: Where have been some of your favorite places to play over the past few tours? Chris: GERMANY, I fucking love it there! Good crowds, nice people! Loads of beer! HaHa!
Ibanez: As far as touring, what do you guys have lined up after the release of the new album next year? Chris: We're doing a UK tour with our buddies Bleed From Within. Then, we're doing a big tour with someone that's staying quiet! We will be touring heavily from the release onwards, and hopefully we'll be making it to America!
Ibanez: What are you currently listening to? Chris: I'm listening to so much different stuff. Mainly it's been the new Faceless and Beneath the Massacre album, but also Four Year Strong and this band Beneath the Massacre's sound guy showed me called "This Will Destroy You". So a varied lot!
